About nhbk

NHBK is a pattern and surface design studio rooted in storytelling, texture, and place. The journey began with a photograph taken on the quiet island of Kerkennah, off the coast of Tunisia — a mosaic floor, weathered by time, that sparked the first of many drawings. Every crack, every missing tile was hand-sketched and honored in its imperfection, resulting in a digital rendering that carries the history of the piece forward. That first design, translated into wallpaper and fabric, became the foundation for a growing archive of original patterns available through Spoonflower and beyond.

The inspiration behind NHBK runs deeper than aesthetics. It’s shaped by cross-cultural connection and a deep appreciation for architectural details: the intricate ironwork of Tunisian doors, the layered influence of Ottoman, Italian, and Mediterranean tile, and the sun-washed colors of the southern coast. The studio was born between two worlds — Southern California and Tunisia — and it carries the richness of both.

This work is about finding beauty in the overlooked, rhythm in the broken, and connection in the shared language of design. NHBK is for those who see their spaces as stories waiting to unfold. Whether you’re dressing a wall, sewing something special, or simply drawn to patterns with a sense of place, we’re glad you’re here.
